Our program provides opportunities for struggling adolescents to develop positive social-emotional skills so that they can maximize their personal and academic potential.
We utilize a variety of seasonal outdoor adventures, combined with the strength of small group dynamics to teach five key skill-sets (self awareness, interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, problem solving, and acceptance/empathy) throughout a year-long progression of adventures. Each month’s adventure will expose participants to new outdoor activities, teaching them the fundamentals of that activity while simultaneously integrating the learning and refinement of our program’s fundamental social-emotional skills.
During the two years subsequent to initial enrollment, youth choosing to remain in the program will continue to be mentored on social and emotional skill development, following the same basic outline as with year one, but with increasingly more depth of practice, both in hard and soft skills.
After three years with the program (generally at the eleventh grade level and considered young adults) individuals wishing to continue their involvement with the program will be able to do so as volunteers. These volunteers will contribute as mentors-in-training, and assist with fundraising and expedition planning, thus providing valuable real-life experience that is directly transferrable to further community service and/or employment opportunities.
